Inspired by the shadows she observed upon the ground and shadows on the ground, the artist spent months experimenting with a method to convey objects with two dimensions onto canvas. When objects live or perishable like fruit and even people that they transform into a picture of them. The ephemeral nature of her painting style is evident and the only thing that remains of Alexa Meade's work is the photographs. Photography and painting are tightly connected to form two-dimensional flat surface which is trompe l'oeil. Certain places three dimensions are seen, for example, near the eye or the hair. At times, Meade integrates her painted models into the three-dimensional world around them, allowing them to interact within this self-created world. The distinctions between performance installation, photography and painting are thus dissolved.
