Julia Fiona Roberts born to Betty Lou Bredemus (mother) and Walter Grady Roberts on October 28, 1967. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation to reside in Atlanta, beginning with her grandfather who was a farmer, John Pendleton Roberts. Her father had an early interest in the theater. While a student of Emory University in 1952 he was a part of productions at Emory University and elsewhere in Atlanta. In 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force, and was stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi acted in a play together with Betty Lou Bredemus. Eric Anthony was their first born. The couple got married in the year 1957. Walter along with his wife quit their Air Force service in 1957 and enrolled Walter at Tulane University. Walter began his work at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter and Betty Lou started production in 1964 for the local Saturday morning children's TV show Bum Bum and His Buddies that they self-funded. In 1964, Walter and Betty Lou established The Actors and Writers Workshop. The workshop lasted six years. They had two more children: Lelisa Billingsley (1965) (also called Lisa) and Julia Billingsley (1967) (also known as Julie).
